Lets Get Talking!

Okay, it's been far too long since anything has been posted here, and so much has gone on since that time, so we need to talk.

Alan has his own solo cd now- Boy on Bridge, and has done a tour in support of it. The album boasts 13 (15 if you buy the deluxe version on iTunes) songs, plus 5 songs that are available through his website- www.alandoyle.ca. The link for the bonus tracks is www.alandoyle.ca/bonus

He's also reprised his role in the hit tv show, Republic of Doyle, playing Wolf Redmond. He's filmed yet another episode this year, and it should air sometime in December. Check it out on CBC (Wednesdays 9pm, 9:30NL).

...and he filmed another movie with Russell and some other big names- A Winter's Tale, where he plays Dingy Worthington.

...oh, and he was just cast as Senator G.D. Robertson in the film adaptation of Strike! More deets to follow!

Alan's not the only one keeping busy. Séan did a Newfoundland tour with Joel Plaskett, even making a stop in Clarenville. I'll tell you more about it some time. He also has a new album about ready to drop, tentatively titled Help Yourself. I'll share more details on that as they become available.

Bob's been a busy boy too- along with family and the band, managing other bands and the like, he now co-owns a pub with Chris Andrews from Shanneyganock, called Erin's. They had some setbacks, but now Erin's is up and running, and is doing quite well (I was there in September and loved it). Also, right next door to Erin's is Bob's restaurant, Tavola. I've not yet been there, but I've heard it's good.

Murray is working on a movie for his 60's Brit Pop band, The Cocksure Lads, which begins filming in the Spring of 2014. If the trailers are any indication, it looks like it's going to be an amazing movie.

As for Kris, he's kept busy playing gigs, either with GBS, the Alan Doyle band, or various other acts around Nova Scotia.

Speaking of GBS, they've got a 20th Anniversary compilation put together, simply entitled XX. There's a simple 2-disc set, as well as a box set (which includes 3 CDs, a DVD, one of their 1st interviews with CBC Radio, a book, a calendar, and various other goodies. They're currently in the midst of a tour to support the record, which went Gold (50,000 units sold) in a week after its release in October of last year. Check out www.greatbigsea.com for show info, and much more!

I guess that's it for now. As always, if you have anything to share, drop us a line!

Cheers,
Krista

Last days of the challenge..

a few days late due to vacation with my 2 best friends... But here they are (the songs that is):

Day 28 - A song you hear every day without fail

Sara: "A Boat Like Gideon Brown"  It's my ringtone.

Karina: Sean wakes me up these days (alarm tone) so it's gotta be Protest Song

Day 29 - A song that you send to a friend to turn them into a gbs fan

Sara: "Captain Kidd"  I usually send them the video.  It seems the most "typical" of their work, and also shows them having a lot of fun.

Karina: Well I've send a few different songs to different people but the one I remember to work the best is Love me Tonight

Day 30 - A gbs song that fits your day today

Sara: "Walk On The Moon"  We're getting ready to go to Disneyland.  We have to fly there, and some of us have never been on planes before and are dealing with our fear of heights.  "I won't let my foolish fear get the best of me" seems appropriate today.

Karina: The mermaid because it's a silly song and I've been very goofy (again) toaday :)

Hope you've enjoyed our little challenge and if you didn't get to to it this month feel free to grab it and use it when ever you feel like it :)

Cheers Karina

GBS song challange - day 27

Sara: "Ordinary Day"  It gets you through the day.

Karina: Walk on the moon is a song I often find myself singing.

GBS song challange - day 26

Day 26 - A song that reminds you of somewhere

Sara: Strangely enough, "John Barbour" reminds me of the ranch where I grew up.  He seems to have the same intensely independent fighting spirit that the cowboys I was surrounded with from an early age fired my imagination with.  Even though "John Barbour" is a seagoing man, and I'm a mountain girl, he reminds me of home.

Karina: Dear Hometown reminds me of Thorsager, the village where I live, but have strayed from a few times. There is just a part of me that never really feels at home anywhere but right here, which this song reminds me of evertime I listen to it

GBS song challange - day 25

Day 25 - A song that makes you laugh.

Sara: "Helmethead"  Fare thee well!

Karina: Yarmouth town :) Even though there are lots of them that makes me laugh :)

GBS song challange - day 24

Day 24 - A song to sing in the shower

Sara:  I don't actually do this, but I do hum "Ordinary Day" when I do housework.  Does that count?

Karina: lots of them but today I sang Wave over wave :)
