The inspiration of an amazing lyricist!

About a month ago Sean and his blogging beagle Tosh issued a contest. They wanted the fans to tell a story and Sean will make the best into a song. As earlier mentioned one of our admins and writer (Sara) is still in the race, but we all entered.

Since Sean did not choose my story I have decided that no harm will come from sharing it here. This story is inspired by Sean's own song Soldier's song - which tells the story of a soldier who mises his home and fears for his life. He shares all of these feelings with his love who is waiting at home in his goodnight letter for her.

Take a listen for yourselves:

The video is recorded by Lynda, look her up on: http://therockandahardplace.typepad.com/

The story Sean McCann's song inspired me to write of the girl waiting at home and how she felt receiving the letter.

It is called: A LETTER HOME

It seemed as if the dark blue sky almost surrounded the house itself. The midnight air was still varm, but a cool breeze was blowing in from the waters. The stars were glittering and the moon lit up the porch. In the far corner there was a bench and at the end of it was a woman hinding in the dark. Only a feeble ray of the moonlight hit her and if you walked by the house chances are you would have missed her.

She was a beautiful sight. Her long brown hair fell down her shoulders and it seemed like it was almost sparkling where the moonbeams hit it. She looked a bit tired, but noone would have a second thought of why that was, had they seen her, since it was so close to midnight.

Had you seen her her beauty might had convinced you to take a closer look and you might have seen the letter she was holding in her hands. The paper was crumpled and dirty, but she held on to it as if it was made of gold. Her last treasure in this world.

A breeze hit her face and blew her hair back. She shivered and her face turned a little darker and it was as if her eyes grew more tired. The wind had brought worries along with it. A tear fell from her eye and ran down her left cheek before she drew in a long breath. As the air filled her lungs she gathered up enough courage to finally open the envelope and take out the handwritten letter inside of it.

She started reading and she felt like he was right beside her, speaking the words on the page into her ear. His voice’s sounded soft and calm and she tipped her head as she listened to him tell her about the dangers and how he tried to be careful and take as few chances as possible. Another tear fell from her eye, when he told her about his fear of the dark and what might be waiting out there in the dessert night.

She felt her heart skip a beat as he told her how much he missed her, but all he had to do was to look up at the stars and he would see her face and she smiled as she read the sentence he always ended his letters with: “Goodnight darling - I hope all your dreams will come true. I’ll send all of my goodnights to you.”

Had you noticed her now you would see she was smiling. Smiling through the tears that was running from her eyes. Crying and alone in the dark dark with her crumbled and dirty treasure still in her hands. If you were looking at her, you sure would have noticed her green eyes sparkel as if she had seen a familiar face when she looked up at the stars. You would heve seen how the breeze touched her face. How she smiled and how her tears suddenly stopped falling as if a reassuring hand had touched her cheek.

You probably also have her as spook to the sky and the twinkling stars above her: “Goodnight love - my dreams will come true as soon as you are back here with me.”

And had you heard this sentence you would have watched her as she got back up on her feet and headed back inside and you would like me have remembered have she stopped in the doorway and you would have smiled to yourself as she turned around and looked up at the sky once more, “I am sending all of my goodnights to you too.”

Had you seen this girl in the febble light from the moon you would, like I did, have seen her all of your goodnights as your head hit the pillow that night and every night since then, untill you had noticed month later sitting beside her at the bench on the porch - sharing a moonbeam with her.

Hope you enjoyed my tail :)

Cheers Karina <3

Thanks for the invite, Karina!

This writer personally wants to thank Karina for inviting her to be a part of this blog. It's an honour to work with you and Sara, and I think together that we can make this blog something special!

Cheers,
Krista

A tale to Tosh from Sara

All of your admins on this blog entered the contest when Tosh first issued it, but only one of us is left in the running.

Sara is a great writer and she did a wonderful job telling tosh a tale from her own life. She's got a good chance of winning, but please vote her story, Wrong side of the law, on at http://www.greatbigsean.com/contest/. I for one would love to hear what kinda song Sean could make from it. Well done and good luck Sara.

Cheers
Karina

A (wo)man ain't nothing if (s)he ain't got a friend!

I have had this idea for a while now - the idea of a cooperate blog and now I finally got around to get it kicked off!

Great Big Sea have caused me to meet a lot of great people and this blog is my way of giving back. Maybe a few people will meet over this blog in time? Or maybe I will help promote this great band just a little :)

My hope is that many will join up and write reviews, share memories, pictures, videos and just thoughts on the band but for now we are 3 and the first thing I wanna do is to thank the two amazing women that jumed at this silly idea right away and have offered to help me write up the bios.

So Sara and Krista - you are the greatest <3
I look forward to sharing this work with the two of you. Here is to lots of future blogging and fun :)
